The Bower is a not-for-profit environmental charity and cooperative that assists the community by diverting waste from landfill through workshops, a second hand shop and a reuse referral service.
The Bower Staff Team consists of staff dedicated to environmental sustainability through practising and promoting reuse and repair culture. From time to time we have vacancies in the team and will list them here.
When looking for new staff, The Bower looks for commitment to the aims and objectives outlined in The Bower Mission. We look for enthusiasm, passion and a can-do attitude, so that we know we’re hiring someone who’ll fit in with the rest of the team.

Casual Employment – Workshop Facilitators
Do you have a skill for upcycling and are keen to share your knowledge? The Bower runs multiple workshops throughout the year, either at our workshop space in Redfern or ‘on the road’ at community centres and other events. We are always looking for facilitators to join us in teaching creative ways to reuse or upcycle items, such as creating cake stands from vintage plates, showing children how to create recycled art and sculpture using basic hand tools or how to use discarded t-shirts to make a rag rug. If you have a creative skill and support our objectives to divert ‘waste’ from landfill, then we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us at or call us at 9568 6280.
Casual Employment – Upholsterer
The Bower wishes to undertake in-house upholstery repairs to furniture that is donated but requires some minor fixing. If you have upholstery skills and support our objectives to divert ‘waste’ from landfill, then we’d love to hear from you. Opportunity also exists to be a facilitator of our introductory upholstery workshops. Please contact us at or call us at 9568 6280.
Casual Employment – Repairer of preloved goods
The Bower is looking for people familiar with the tricks of the trade to repair electrical appliances, bikes and furniture, to use preloved goods and building materials for upcycling and artistic projects and to help with our educational workshops.
If you support the Bower’s objective to reuse and repair preloved goods and thereby divert useable ‘waste’ from going to landfill and you want to share your enthusiasm and knowledge with other people, we would love to hear from you.
The Bower has been a leading organisation in repairing and reusing goods for the last 15 years. Thanks to the growing popularity of our repair services, recycled art workshops and more recently our Repair Café program, we are expanding our pool of casual employees.
If you like repairing and upcycling goods and love to share your experience with other people, we are interested in speaking with you.
Please contact us at or call us at 9568 6280 or drop by our Repair Café on Wednesday afternoon between 1pm and 4pm at the Bower Reuse and Repair Centre at 34/124 Addison Road in Marrickville NSW 2204. We look forward to hearing from you.
