The Bower Team

You've probably met one or two of our awesome team - but have you met us all?

Often you've only got a small amount of spare time each week to visit The Bower, so we're including a little bit more about the staff, their expertise and their passion.

Each member of the team comes from a different background, has a different approach and a different expertise to offer.

Guido Verbist

Cooperative Manager

Guido has worked in the not-for-profit and commercial sector including managing a recycling centre in his native Belgium. Between 2000 and 2008 Guido managed Greenpeace International's operations department. Since moving to Australia in 2009 he was managing the Asia Pacific branch of a global security company. He started as Co-operative manager in August 2013. His ambition is to establish the Bower as a long term partner for the city council's waste management programs, create additional employment and training opportunities in the waste reuse and repair industry and give quality goods at affordable prices back to the community.

Greg

Bower Ranger (Collections & Deliveries)

With over 11 years of service to The Bower, Greg is our longest standing member of staff. Not only does he drive our truck, scouring council clean ups, delivering goodies and collecting donations, Greg is also our resident machine man. If it's metal or mechanical, Greg knows what it is and how to fix it. He's also a regular contributor of workbenches to our consignment section.

Glen

Electrical Technician

With a life time of testing and repairing electronics, Glen has a personal passion for classic and vintage electronics. Self educated in the nearly obsolete world of valve technology, he has experience servicing the music industry. Glen has become one of the leading technicians in this part of the world for Vox musical amplifiers, and he is happy to answer any enquires and give tips and tricks. Did we mention he's in a band!?

Smith

Sales & Floor

Smith, as she wants to be called, worked for more than 20 years in the Taronga and Western Plain Zoos as work health and safety manager. The globetrotter virus has brought her to Asia, Europe, Latin America and South Africa. She nominates as a highlight a one on one 80 minutes guided tour with Nelson Mandela in Toranga Zoo. She works as salesperson and is also active as a consignee.

Fiona

Sales & Floor

Fiona joined The Bower family through her involvement with our TAFEOutreach NSW/PLACE partnered course in Furniture Reuse & Repair. Now an eager volunteer co-ordinator for Curb Collective, a social enterprise formed by graduates of that class, Fiona is a great addition to our team.

As a artist who uses reused, found objects and recycling as her core medium in sculptural forms, Fiona brings a creative energy and years of community involvement to The Bower.

Sam

Customer Liaison Officer (RRS)

This role at The Bower covers many areas, splitting time between answering all your enquiries, manning the Library and accepting donations and deliveries. The RRS (Reuse Referral Service) ensures customers have ample reuse/recycling options if we are unable to accept donations for any reason. Sam also works on marketing the Co-Op and corresponding with Councils, media and other organisations to ensure the community is informed about events and services.
