The Bower’s Repair Café

Repair Cafés are community spaces where people share knowledge and skills in repairing all kinds of items – electrical goods, clothing, furniture, bikes and more.

The Bower’s first Repair Café opened in 2014. Volunteer electrical technicians, bike mechanics and timber workers from the Marrickville Men’s Shed are on hand to advise and assist members of the community to fix dodgy small electrical items, rickety tables and chairs, and wobbly bicycles. We take time to explain the repair process to every participant, helping them to learn new skills and understand the benefits in repairing and reusing. This isn’t about us fixing the items, it’s about us teaching you how to do it!

Repair Cafe Marrickville

The FREE repair cafe operates weekly at The Bower in Marrickville, Wednesdays 1pm – 4pm. Pop in with your item in need of repair. Please bring one item per person.

Repair Cafe Parramatta

Our Parramatta repair cafe is generally the last Saturday of the month at The Bower in Parramatta, 10am – 12pm. Please note that parking on Hunter Street is free for fifteen minutes only, so you can bring your item in quickly to see if it can be fixed. If so, you can park in the Justice Precinct Car Park for $3 an hour on Saturdays.

We thank the Parramatta Leagues Club for funding the Parramatta Repair Cafe via the Parramatta ClubGRANTS scheme.

The repair cafe is free, but bookings are essential.

Repair Cafe ‘On the Road’ Locations:

In 2017, ABC’s Lateline visited our Repair Café. The Repair Café also featured in the ABC 2017 Documentary ‘War on Waste‘.

It’s so popular that we now take the Repair Café ‘on the road’ to councils, community centres and festivals, offering our services to residents in all parts of Sydney in order to avoid items going to landfill. Residents are invited to bring their own items requiring repair.

Small Electricals Repair Café
From lamps to stereo equipment, vintage desk fans and radios to remote control cars……..our electrical technicians have fixed them all. Sometimes a simple re-soldering of a join or replacing a dodgy plug is all that’s needed to get those electrical goods working again.

Timber Furniture Repair Café
Chairs, stools and side tables are the most common timber items brought to the Repair Café for a quick fix. Our woodworkers explain the process of fixing the item to show how simple it can be to restore a broken item to functional furniture.

Bicycle Repair Café (and maintenance)
Our bicycle mechanics are experts in getting you back on two wheels. A quick tune-up of the gears, patching up a puncture or realigning the wheels – it’s all part of the service.
