The Bower is an environmental charity that seeks to reduce landfill and carbon emissions by collecting and distributing household goods that are no longer wanted. The Bower also has a strong community wellbeing focus and is able to sell collected items through our retail outlets as well as redistribute goods to vulnerable and disadvantaged people who are being rehoused after experiencing periods of homelessness. We work with multiple agencies and councils to provide furniture and white goods free for beneficiaries of these programs. The Bower also undertakes the delivery of courses to support the development of knowledge and skills in repairing, restoring and upcycling furniture and further contributing to the reduction of items into landfill.

WE ARE SEEKING A PROGRAMS MANAGER TO:

  • Manage the collection and redistribution of household items across Sydney
  • Manage the staff and volunteers within the collections and retail sites and on-line sales
  • Ensure retail and collections staff, inclusive of Work for the Dole volunteers are fully trained
  • Oversee government agreements e.g. Work for the Dole
  • Liaise with welfare agencies to source goods as needed for agencies
  • Support major events delivered by the Bower e.g. Art for Trash
  • Undertake data collection and reporting for various levels of government and other supporting organisations

This position works across a wide spectrum and is a pivotal role in our Senior Management Team. We are seeking a versatile person who can think quickly and work independently. You must be an organised person with solid problem solving skills, and either have a degree or be pursuing a degree in Business, Social Services or Sustainability.

You will have prior experience in a similar management role of not less than two years. e.g. people management, programs or retail, goods distribution.

Covid-Marshalls (Volunteer)

Bower Reuse and Repair Centres is on the hunt for volunteer Covid Check-In Marshals to help maintain the safety of staff and customers at our Marrickville shopfront.

A COVID Check-in Marshal is responsible for ensuring that each person who enters the premises uses the relevant QR code to check-in on arrival (or provide an alternative record-keeping method) and follows other Covid-safety procedures, including providing evidence of Covid vaccination status or a legitimate medical exemption.

Our shop front hours are 10-5 Mon-Sat and 10-4 on Sun. If you are able to volunteer some time to assist with this important role please email reuse@bower.org.au.

Workshop Facilitators & Repairers

Position Description

The Bower is a not-for-profit environmental charity and cooperative that assists the community by diverting waste from landfill through workshops, a second hand shop and a reuse referral service.

We are looking for experienced repairers of furniture and electrical appliances who are eager to share their skills via workshops and repair cafes or who want to work in our electronic and furniture workshops as repairers. You will join a team, working in a vibrant, fast-paced environment with many elements under one roof. Tasks will involve facilitating workshops in and repairing of electronic items and furniture.
