Australia’s first community hub dedicated to the reuse and repair of household electrical appliances, clothing, mobile phones and bikes.

The Banga electrical workshop has opened its doors at Sydney’s Green Square to provide space for people to meet, learn, and share repair skills. The shed houses a tool library and hosts a weekly repair café, electronic skills workshops, and testing and tagging services.

Activities and Services

Repair cafe

Bring your broken electrical items, torn clothing, unused bikes and poorly functional mobile phones to the Banga workshop and our volunteers will attempt to repair them with you, while sharing solutions to common problems.

Electrical Repair Cafe

Bring a piece of electrical item to fix with one of our volunteers, learn to safely dismantle, identify issues and take home a renewed electrical.

Clothing Repair Cafe

Learn to sew a dropped hem, de-buttoned shirt, dodgy zip, torn, frayed or holey thing in this community repair program – where people who can sew, assist people who think they can’t!

Bike Repair Cafe

Get out your cobwebbed frames and get back on the road with the bicycle tune up program where volunteers help you build, maintain and repair bicycles.

Mobile Repair Cafe

Refurbish, diagnose complicated repairs and get comprehensive advice on your old smart phones for faults.

Paid repairs

Bring your broken electrical items and we will repair them for a fee. When: 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday Cost: $55 per hour plus replacement parts

Tool Library

Borrow a large variety of garden, carpentry and household appliances. Save space in your home with this cheap alternative to one-off purchases! When: 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday Cost: Annual membership fee + $25 bond to cover cost for loss or repair

Rent-a-bench

Rent the space and tools of the electronic workshop to complete personal projects and learn more about electronic repair. Available mid-2019

Electrical Workshops

In our workshops, you will learn how to use the basic tools required to test, diagnose, maintain and repair electrical appliances. This will give you the skills to repair your own electrical items at home and even increase their longevity. Available mid-2019

Test and Tag Service

We will test and tag your electrical items to ensure they are safe to use in commercial, industrial, or home environments. This service includes:
  • Physical inspection
  • Stress testing (durability)
  • Testing electronic components
  • Tagging
  • Electronic log
When: 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday Cost: $5 per item (deals for larger numbers). For audio items the fee will be between $10 and $15 depending on the item
