Position Description

Bower educational courses are delivered face-to-face to help inspire and teach community members the art of repair and upcycling. Courses and Repair Cafes include woodworking, electronic repairs, bicycle maintenance, tiny house construction, upholstery, and clothing repairs. We also run a men’s and women’s shed for basic DIY and woodworking skills.

In following our purpose, the Bower generates employment opportunities through skills training across communities and works with many community organisations providing household goods to vulnerable and disadvantaged families and individuals to improve their lives and well-being.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Reuse and Repair Manager will:

  • Manage the workshop venues at Redfern and Summer Hill
  • Manage courses at other venues such as our Marrickville site
  • Liaise with Councils to provide workshops and repair cafes
  • Liaise with the Media Officer for workshop bookings and inquiries
  • Liaise with external organisations (e.g. Colleges and contractors)
  • Support event organisation and the delivery of workshops and repair café’s (on-line and face to face)
  • Manage the invoicing and flow of goods to be refurbished
  • Maintain a planned schedule of workshops and repair cafes for The Bower
  • Manage in cooperation with The Bower Administrator the financial reports for the workshops
  • Be responsible for WH&S policies and procedures in workshops
  • Ensure that waste is disposed of in accordance with Bower procedures and policies
  • Ensure staff are supported in a safe, healthy, and positive environment.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualification: Practical experience, project management or managing your own company

Experience: Minimum 2 years of work experience in a similar role or other relevant experience

Workshop Facilitators & Repairers

Position Description

The Bower is a not-for-profit environmental charity and cooperative that assists the community by diverting waste from landfill through workshops, a second hand shop and a reuse referral service.

We are looking for experienced repairers of furniture and electrical appliances who are eager to share their skills via workshops and repair cafes or who want to work in our electronic and furniture workshops as repairers. You will join a team, working in a vibrant, fast-paced environment with many elements under one roof. Tasks will involve facilitating workshops in and repairing of electronic items and furniture.
